Dogfish Head Rosabi! August 20 2014

Recently, we tapped an unsurprisingly unique beer from Dogfish Head Brewery called Rosabi, an Imperial Pale Ale brewed with Wasabi root. The brewery collaborated with Julianna Barwick, a musician with the voice of an angel, to make this special brew. She was asked to perform at the brewery for the celebration of the completion of their 18th month long expansion. After her performance, they just could not help but ask her to join them in making a beer.
Julianna is best known for looping and layering her voice to make it sound choir-like, as if the heavens were singing down upon you. Sam Calagione, owner of Dogfish Head, said, “I just love Julianna’s sonic palette. Her layered style reminds me of the art of brewing. Her songs are beautiful but completely unconventional, just as our beer recipes are completely nontraditional. But in the end, they are both distinct and find an adventurous community of enthusiasts." Julianna did not just help the brewery make a beer, but she also created a 4 song EP titled Rosabi in honor of the beer.

You can hear a song featured on the EP here:

The beer, an Imperial Pale Ale, is lighter on the hop notes than an India Pale Ale. It is a rose color due to the red rice used when brewing the beer. The red rice is imported from Louisiana, Julianna's birthplace. It is made with Munich and Caramel malts, Simcoe and Centennial hops, and of course, wasabi root.

Julianna said, “It was an honor to christen the new brewery, collaborate on a unique beer with someone like Sam, and create new music for an incredible company like Dogfish. It’s clear that the people of Dogfish are happy and proud of what they do and they should be. I can’t wait for people to try Rosabi!”

Only 1000 cases with 6 750ml each were made. So, come to The Porch today, tonight, or tomorrow morning and enjoy a lovely limited edition Rosabi Ale before it's gone forever.

The Lagunitas "Beerlesque" Show! August 20 2014

What's better than half naked hot people and beer? Nothing. Nothing is better than that. If you were one of the lucky few that got to attend the Lagunitas Un-Censored Burlesque show held at The Porch then you know what to expect from this post! If not, well, I am here to inform you what that night was all about. Lagunitas Brewing Company out of Petaluma, California decided to throw a sweet burlesque show at The Porch a couple of weeks back.

It was given the name Lagunitas Un-Censored in honor of their copper ale called Censored.

image_thumbNow, let me give you a brief history lesson on where their Censored copper ale originates. The guys at Lagunitas had originally named this beer Kronik. Why did they name this beer Kronik? No one really knows the truth. It's not like it means marijuana or anything of the sort. But, the feds didn't think it was that funny and made them change the name. So, the guys did what any intelligent person would do and slapped a censored label on it. The feds approved the label and Lagunitas Censored was born, and my my my it's delicious!!lagunitas-72 Back to the show! This amazing night was hosted by the one and only Frankie with performances by Cheeky Derriere, Velvet Garcia, Hunny Bunz and Buffy L'Orange! These sexy people shook their rumps, removed their clothing and gave us all a show we would never forget! lagunitas-40Each had two performances and while on break we were given the pleasure of listening to DJ Chaka spinning tunes. Of course no Lagunitas show would be complete without their delicious beer. We were drinking Lagunitas Censored, IPA, and Little Sumpin Sumpins all night for $5! Hopefully we'll get to work with Lagunitas again, and if you were one of the unfortunate souls that missed this event, be sure to make it to our next!

As for now, if you haven't checked out Lagunitas beer I suggest you do. Drink beer, keep it weird, and look out for Frankie and the gorgeous people of burlesque around Key West and The Porch!

Puddles Pity Party Was Anything But Pitiful August 20 2014

So, what happens when you have a 7ft clown perform at your favorite bar? Magic! Chris Shultz and Keith St. Peter strike again by inviting Puddles the Clown to perform at The Porch last Memorial Day weekend. If you  haven't met Puddles the Clown, let me introduce you. This is Puddles:

Puddles is the saddest clown with the most angelic voice. He graced us with his presence and performed sad renditions of pop's greatest hits. He has over 7 million views on YouTube and is currently on a massive tour. Puddles doesn't speak, he only sings, and when he sings, he sings like this...

The Porch closed its doors for a couple of hours just for this wonderful show and let me tell you, this was definitely one of the greatest nights The Porch has ever experienced. Puddles not only performed for us, but he made us perform for him too! Karaoke was forced upon those who could barely keep a tune, and with that came endless laughter.

Puddles on the other hand was not very amused by the lack of musical tune most of us carried as one can see from the above picture. Although, I think making Puddles smile is nearly impossible anyway. His show isn't called Puddles Pity Party for nothing. By the end of the night he had us all dancing and singing away! It was a fun filled night of drunken debauchery!

I have never seen Chris Shultz as happy as he was on this night, and for that we thank you Puddles. Dreams do come true! Sorry to all of you that missed it, and thank you to all of you that made it a wonderful affair. Until next time. Cheers.
